Ye Famous Editor - James Gordon Bennett, Jr., One of a set of six stock cards printed by Tobin, NY, showing a famous person of the day and an appropriate caption beginning with "Ye" at the top, this one showing James Gordon Bennett, Jr. (1841-1918), owner and editor of the New York Herald newspaper who vigorously pursued greater circulation with sensational stories, famous writers and fresh news. The New York Herald was one of the first papers created in the penny-press movement and is often quoted as the beginning of American journalism. F.
