Recommended Settings
The Trade Card Place Auction pages are best viewed when your computer is set to a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels or higher, 1000s of colors or more, and a font size of 12 pts. The pages specify a font style of Arial for PCs and Helvetica for Macs, which will be used if your browser is set up to enable page-specified fonts (found under your Internet browser's Preferences menu). If the auction pages appear jumbled or confusing then you might want to try these settings.

Javascript
Javascript is used to provide a more convenient way of viewing a lot's description and enlarged image via a window that appears without having to switch pages.

Javascript is a language used to write executable scripts that are contained in the HTML page that your Internet browser displays on your computer. These scripts provide additional features not possible with HTML alone. Unfortunately, some of the earlier browsers are not capable of executing Javascript.

If your computer was purchased or upgraded within the past two years or so then chances are very good that your browser can execute the Javascript used in this auction. However, to make sure:

  1. go to the LotSearcher page and select a category
  2. you should receive a Your Selections page for lots in that category
  3. an underlined Lot Number (e.g., 011.48) should appear above the thumbnail image of each lot
  4. when you click on a Lot Number, a black window should appear showing an enlarged image and text description of the lot
  5. when you click on the underlined Lot Number in the black window, the window should disappear and you should be viewing the Your Selections page again

If you can perform all 5 of these steps successfully then you're ready for the auction. If you can't then either your browser is not capable of executing Javascript or it's capable but has Javascript turned off, and your next steps depend on whether you''re using the Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer browser.

For both PCs and Macs, Netscape Navigator Versions 2.0 and later are capable of executing the Javascript used in this auction, and you can determine what version you have by clicking on the Navigator icon and observing the version number shown in the browser's startup screen. Note that Netscape Navigator is also called Netscape Communicator beginning with Version 4.0

Also, for both PCs and Macs, you can determine whether your Navigator browser has Javascript turned on by choosing Preferences in the Edit Menu and then selecting Advanced to see a check box labeled Enable Javascript--which should be checked.

For both PCs and Macs, Internet Explorer Versions 3.01 and later are capable of executing the Javascript used in this auction. For Macs you can determine what version you have by clicking on the Explorer icon and observing the version number shown in the browser's startup screen. For PCs, you can determine what version you have by finding file Internet Explorer, opening the folder of that name, selecting file lexplore, choosing Properties on the File Menu, and clicking on the Version Tab.

Also, for Macs, you can determine whether Explorer has Javascript turned on by choosing Preferences in the Edit Menu and then choosing Web Content under Web Browser to see a check box labeled Enable Scripting--which should be checked. For PCs, search your disk for file "jscript.dll", get the file's Properties and click on the Version Tab. If you can find the file then Javascript is turned on.

If your browser version is earlier than those listed above then you need to update your browser because you're missing out on a lot of features in addition to Javascript. You can get an updated version of Internet Explorer for PCs or Macs by clicking here, and an updated version of Netscape Navigator for PCs or Macs by clicking here. If you're an AOL user then you need to get the most recent AOL browser appropriate for your computer.

This whole updating and enabling process is a pain, to be sure, but will be well worth the effort for viewing other Internet websites as well as this auction. If you just can't make it work, please send me email at bcrane@tradecards.com and I'll try to help you.
