Trade cards of this type are members of a set of trade cards where each card portrays part of an overall story. The cards are usually, but not always, sequentially numbered starting at 1.
This term is not to be confused with cards that are members of a set that bear the same overall theme but do not tell a story.
Cards of this type are either separate cards, or else are connected together to form a foldover card. Because of the fragility of the 100-year old folds, it is not uncommon to find separate cards that were originally connected together as a foldover. Also, it seems that some series cards may have been issued both separately and as foldovers.
